A RESOLUTION
Honoring the service of Ivan Kenneth Flanscha and Zachary John
Anthony, firefighters for York City Fire/Rescue Services,
York County, who were killed in the line of duty on March 22,
2018.
WHEREAS, Firefighter Ivan Kenneth Flanscha, born February 13,
1968, in Oelwein, Iowa, graduated from York College of
Pennsylvania and the Harrisburg Area Community College Fire
Academy; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Flanscha began his professional career
with York City Fire/Rescue Services in 1999 and was selected as
Firefighter of the Year in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Zachary John Anthony, born December 15,
1988, in Allentown, Lehigh County, was a 2007 graduate of
Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville, Monroe County,

and a 2008 graduate of Florida State Fire College in Ocala,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Anthony joined the York City Fire/Rescue
Services in 2010 and was a leader in education sessions that
paired students at St. Patrick Catholic School in York with
community leaders; and
WHEREAS, On March 22, 2018, Firefighters Flanscha and Anthony
were killed in the line of duty after the collapse of the former
Weaver Organ and Piano building in York City; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth mourns the loss of these courageous
individuals who gave their lives for the safety of others in
their community; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the service
of Ivan Kenneth Flanscha and Zachary John Anthony, firefighters
for York City Fire/Rescue Services, York County, who were killed
in the line of duty on March 22, 2018.
