A RESOLUTION 1 Congratulating Somerset Borough, Somerset County, on the 2 bicentennial anniversary of its founding. 3 WHEREAS, On April 17, 1795, Somerset County was formed from 4 Bedford County and Brunerstown, originally founded by Harmon 5 Husband, was selected as the county seat and changed its name to 6 Somerset Borough; and 7 WHEREAS, Somerset Borough was incorporated on March 5, 1804; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, The first newspaper in the county, the German 10 Farmer, was published for the first time on that date; and 11 WHEREAS, The first high school in the county was established 12 in Somerset Borough during 1887; and
1 WHEREAS, Somerset Borough has a proud blue-collar tradition 2 of farming, logging, mining and mills; and 3 WHEREAS, More recently, Somerset Borough has become known as 4 the focal point of the Flight 93 terrorist attack on September 5 11, 2001, and for the heroic rescue of 9 trapped coal miners 6 from the Quecreek Mine accident in 2002; and 7 WHEREAS, During 2004, Somerset Borough celebrates the 8 bicentennial anniversary of its founding; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate 10 Somerset Borough, Somerset County, on the bicentennial 11 anniversary of its founding.
