AN ACT

 

1Designating each of the bridges that carry Lincoln Highway over
2Electric Avenue, in North Braddock Borough, Allegheny County,
3State Bridge No. 02 0030 0230 0001 and State Bridge No. 02
40030 0231 0000, as the AMVETS Memorial Bridge.

5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:

7Section 1. AMVETS Memorial Bridge.

8(a) Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and
9declares as follows:

10(1) The North Braddock AMVETS Post 60 was granted a
11national charter by an act of Congress in February of 1946.

12(2) Throughout the years, AMVETS Post 60 has been
13actively involved in and around the local community. AMVETS 
14Post 60 was a cosponsor of the annual community Memorial Day 
15parade, which started in the late 1940's and lasted until the 
16early 1970's. Local fire departments, marching bands and Boy 
17Scouts and Girl Scouts participated in the parade.

18(3) AMVETS Post 60 helped sponsor the local little
19league, pony league and Boy Scouts and supported the local

1volunteer fire departments, EMS services and police
2departments.

3(4) In the late 1970's AMVETS Post 60 took the lead in
4restarting Memorial Day observances with other veterans'
5organizations, and for the past 26 years has watched
6community involvement grow.

7(5) Since November of 2008, AMVETS Post 60 has been
8holding a Veterans Day flag burning memorial service where
9American Flags are properly disposed of.

10(6) AMVETS Post 60 in North Braddock continues to serve
11veterans and its community by offering a helping hand when
12the need arises.

13(b) Designation.--The bridges that carry Lincoln Highway
14over Electric Avenue, in North Braddock Borough, Allegheny
15County, State Bridge No. 02 0030 0230 0001 and State Bridge No.
1602 0030 0231 0000, are each hereby designated the AMVETS
17Memorial Bridge.

18(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
19maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridges to
20traffic in both directions on the bridges.

21Section 2. Effective date.

22This act shall take effect in 60 days.
