AN ACT
1 Amending the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216, No.76), entitled "An
2 act relating to dentistry; defining and providing for the
3 licensing and registration of dentists and dental hygienists,
4 and for the revocation and suspension of such licenses and
5 registrations, subject to appeal, and for their
6 reinstatement; defining the powers and duties of the State
7 Dental Council and Examining Board and the Department of
8 Public Instruction; providing penalties; and repealing
9 existing laws," requiring completion of approved continuing
10 education programs for renewal of dental licenses.
11 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
12 hereby enacts as follows:
13 Section 1. Section 8 of the act of May 1, 1933 (P.L.216,
14 No.76), known as The Dental Law, amended December 20, 1985
15 (P.L.513, No.118), is amended to read:
16 Section 8. Status of Existing Practitioners Preserved.--
17 [Any] (a) Subject to the requirements of subsection (b), any
18 person licensed or legally authorized to practice dentistry or
19 as a dental hygienist in this Commonwealth at the time this act
20 takes effect shall thereafter continue to possess the same
21 rights and privileges with respect to the practice of dentistry
1 or as a dental hygienist without being required to be licensed 2 anew under the provisions of this act, subject, however, to the 3 power of the board, as provided in this act, to suspend or 4 revoke the license of any such person for any of the causes set 5 forth in this act, and subject to the power of the board to 6 require any such person to renew biennially with the board, as 7 provided in this act. 8 (b) Beginning March 31, 1997, no application for renewal of 9 a dental or dental hygienist license shall be approved by the 10 board unless the applicant submits proof to the board of 11 satisfactory completion of the continuing education requirements 12 imposed by board regulations. 13 Section 2.
