A RESOLUTION

Honoring Schramm, Inc., a century-old Chester County

2

manufacturer and global supplier to the hydraulic drill

3

industry, for its assistance in helping to rescue 33 Chilean

4

miners.

5

WHEREAS, Schramm, Inc., is a century-old, privately owned

6

manufacturer and global supplier to the hydraulic drill industry

7

that has its main office in West Chester, Chester County; and

8

WHEREAS, Schramm, Inc., was in competition with drilling rigs

9

from all over the world to rescue 33 miners in Chile who became

10

trapped more than 2,000 feet below ground after a mine collapse

11

on August 5, 2010, an event which garnered worldwide attention;

12

and

13

WHEREAS, The company manufactured four of the nine rigs that

14

were initially used to locate the 33 trapped miners in Chile;

and

WHEREAS, Schramm, Inc., used drilling tools and bits supplied

2

by Center Rock, Inc., of Berlin, Somerset County; and

3

WHEREAS, Schramm, Inc.'s T685WS rig successfully reached the

4

miners on August 22, 2010, after punching a 5.5-inch diameter

5

hole through 2,300 feet of rock; and

6

WHEREAS, That hole allowed rescuers to supply the trapped

7

miners with food and supplies and a communications link to the

8

outside world; and

9

WHEREAS, Three rescue teams embarked on an effort to drill an

10

enlarged rescue shaft and the first team to reach the miners

11

used a Schramm model TS130XDE mobile drilling rig; and

12

WHEREAS, The company's TS130XDE rig was used to enlarge the

13

original hole to 28 inches and rescue the 33 miners; and

14

WHEREAS, All the miners were successfully rescued on October

15

13 and 14, 2010, with the help of Schramm, Inc.; therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Schramm,

17

Inc., of West Chester for its assistance in helping to rescue 33

18

Chilean miners; and be it further

19

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to

20

Schramm, Inc., at 800 East Virginia Avenue, West Chester, PA

21

19380.
