AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," providing for funding for a rewarding 6 results program; and making an appropriation. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 10 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding an 11 article to read: 12 ARTICLE XXV-A 13 REWARDING RESULTS 14 Section 2501-A. Programs. 15 Funding for the following programs shall be provided from 16 appropriations provided for rewarding results: 17 (1) School improvement grants as provided in section 18 1715.2-B. 19 (2) Distinguished schools or school districts as
1 provided in section 1715.4-B. 2 (3) Distinguished Educators as provided in section 3 1715.5-B. 4 Section 2502-A. Purpose and amount. 5 The Department of Education shall use the funds in this 6 section to select and train Distinguished Educators and pay for 7 their assignment to school districts. The Department of 8 Education shall also use these funds for the distinguished 9 schools and school districts program as monetary rewards and 10 provide assistance to school districts that are in the school 11 improvement cycle or the corrective action cycle. The amount per 12 student shall up to $2,870. 13 Section 2503-A. Payments. 14 Payment to school districts under this article shall be made 15 based on the amounts approved by the Department of Education. No 16 contract or grant agreement shall be required in order for the 17 department to make these payments. Payments shall be made to 18 school districts in installments during a fiscal year. 19 Section 2. The sum of $44,800,000, or as much thereof as may 20 be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of 21 Education for the fiscal year July 1, 2003, to June 30, 2004, to 22 carry out the provisions of Article XXV-A of the act. This 23 appropriation shall be a three-year continuing appropriation and 24 shall not lapse until June 30, 2006. 25 Section 3. Schools established in accordance with the 26 provisions of the former section 502.1 of the act prior to the 27 effective date of this act shall continue to operate under the 28 provisions of that section. The repeal of section 502.1 of the 29 act shall not be construed to affect schools under the former 30 section 502.1 of the act in existence prior to the effective 20030H1300B1609 - 2 -
