AN ACT 1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the 2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for 3 definitions. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 8951 of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania 7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read: 8 § 8951. Definitions. 9 The following words and phrases when used in this subchapter 10 shall have, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the 11 meanings given to them in this section: 12 "Chief law enforcement officer." The head of a duly 13 constituted municipal law enforcement agency which regularly 14 provides primary police services to a political subdivision or, 15 in the absence of any such municipal law enforcement agency, the 16 commanding officer of the Pennsylvania State Police installation 17 which regularly provides primary police services to the 18 political subdivision.
1 "Municipal police officer." Any natural person who is 2 properly employed by a municipality, including a home rule 3 municipality, as a regular full-time or part-time police 4 officer. 5 "Primary jurisdiction." The geographical area within the 6 territorial limits of a municipality or any lawful combination 7 of municipalities which employs a municipal police officer[.] 8 and in the case of a county of the third class that has 9 established a county park police force in accordance with the 10 provisions of section 2511 of the act of August 9, 1955 11 (P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, the geographical 12 area designated by ordinance of its board of county 13 commissioners as the jurisdictional area for the county park 14 police. 15 "Training law." The act of June 18, 1974 (P.L.359, No.120), 16 referred to as the Municipal Police Education and Training Law. 17 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. C6L42MRD/20030H1861B2425 - 2 -
