AN ACT 1 Designating Exit 10 in Harborcreek Township on Interstate 90 as 2 the Trooper Matthew R. Bond Memorial Interchange. 3 WHEREAS, Matthew R. Bond, an honored and decorated 4 Pennsylvania State Police trooper, was born August 8, 1971, in 5 Greensburg, Pennsylvania, graduated from Meadville Area High 6 School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal 7 Justice from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. 8 WHEREAS, In September of 1995, Trooper Bond entered the 9 Pennsylvania State Police Academy and served with Troop B, in 10 Belle Vernon, from March of 1996 to September of 1998, and 11 thereafter with Troop E in Lawrence Park. 12 WHEREAS, Trooper Bond received the Medal of Honor, the 13 highest honor in the Pennsylvania State Police, in August 1999, 14 for rescuing a woman and her daughter from a 1998 house fire,
1 and served the Commonwealth with distinction until his death on 2 January 14, 2000, after being struck by a tractor-trailer in the 3 line of duty while assisting a stranded motorist. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Designation. 7 The interchange in Harborcreek Township known as Exit 10 on 8 Interstate 90 is hereby designated as the Trooper Matthew R. 9 Bond Memorial Interchange. 10 Section 2. Posting of signs. 11 The Department of Transportation shall erect appropriate 12 signs to indicate the designation made by this act. 13 Section 3.
