AN ACT
Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled
"An act concerning townships of the first class; amending,
revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating
thereto," in police, further providing for appointment,
compensation and training of police officers.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 1401(a) of the act of June 24, 1931
(P.L.1206, No.331), known as The First Class Township Code, is
amended and the section is amended by adding a subsection to
read:
Section 1401. Appointment, Compensation and Training of
Police Officers.--(a) The board of commissioners may, subject
to the civil service provisions of this act, appoint and fix the
number, rank and compensation of the members of the township
police force. Any police force created by the board of
commissioners must operate as a full-time police department.

(h) As used in this section, the following words and phrases
shall have the meanings given to them in this subsection unless

the context clearly indicates otherwise:
"Full-time police department." A police force that maintains
twenty-four-hour-per-day police coverage in its designated area.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
