AN ACT 1 Amending the act of July 24, 1941 (P.L.490, No.188), entitled 2 "An act relating to acknowledgments of written instruments, 3 and to make uniform the law with relation thereto," further 4 providing for identification of signers. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Section 5 of the act of July 24, 1941 (P.L.490, 8 No.188), known as the Uniform Acknowledgment Act, is amended to 9 read: 10 Section 5. Requisites of Acknowledgment.--[The officer 11 taking the acknowledgment shall know or have satisfactory 12 evidence that the person making the acknowledgment is the person 13 described in and who executed the instrument.] The officer 14 taking the acknowledgment shall know through personal knowledge 15 or have satisfactory evidence that the person appearing before 16 him is the person described in and who executed the instrument. 17 For purposes of this section, "personal knowledge" shall mean 18 having an acquaintance derived from association with the 19 individual in relation to other people and based upon a sequence
1 of circumstances surrounding the individual that establishes the 2 individual's identity. "Satisfactory evidence" shall mean the 3 reliance on the presentation of a current, government-issued 4 identification card that contains a photograph, signature, 5 physical description and serial or identification number, or the 6 oath or affirmation of a credible witness who is personally 7 known to the officer taking the acknowledgment and who 8 personally knows the individual executing the instrument. 9 Section 2.
