| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Permitting supervised children to observe polling places. |
2 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
3 | hereby enacts as follows: |
4 | Section 1. Short title. |
5 | This act shall be known and may be cited as the Voting |
6 | Observation for Children Act. |
7 | Section 2. Observation. |
8 | (a) Authorization.--Notwithstanding any other provision of |
9 | the act of June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), known as the |
10 | Pennsylvania Election Code, a local judge of elections may |
11 | permit a group of supervised children to observe a polling |
12 | place. |
13 | (b) Conditions.--The following conditions apply: |
14 | (1) The group must be observing the polling place as |
15 | part of a school curriculum. |
16 | (2) The teacher or group leader must provide advance |
17 | notice to the local judge of elections for approval of the |
18 | observation. |

1 | (c) Time and size.-- |
2 | (1) The observation shall occur at an off-peak or other |
3 | time that will ensure as little disruption in voting to the |
4 | public as possible. |
5 | (2) The local judge of election shall limit the size of |
6 | the observing group and the group's supervisors as needed |
7 | based on the size of the polling location. |
8 | Section 10. Effective date. |
9 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
