SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 40 Session of 1989


        INTRODUCED BY PORTERFIELD, WILLIAMS, GREENLEAF, SHAFFER, LEWIS,
           PECORA, SHUMAKER, JUBELIRER, MUSTO, SALVATORE, BELAN, ROCKS,
           O'PAKE, AFFLERBACH, MELLOW, PETERSON, LOEPER, FATTAH, FUMO,
           STEWART, BODACK, STOUT, LYNCH AND DAWIDA, APRIL 3, 1989

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 3, 1989

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of April 9 through 15, 1989, as "Victim
     2     Rights Week" in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Although the public perception is that crime victims
     4  are few, in fact, there are many victims of crime; and
     5     WHEREAS, Victims of crime come from all walks of life and
     6  have suffered as a result of the commission of many different
     7  types of crimes; and
     8     WHEREAS, Regardless of the crime, victims are not usually
     9  treated with proper respect, and their views are not given
    10  adequate consideration; and
    11     WHEREAS, The National Organization for Victim Assistance,
    12  Mothers Against Drunk Driving and other victim assistance
    13  organizations will join hands, hearts and voices during the week
    14  of April 9, 1989, for "National Victim Rights Week"; therefore
    15  be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania designate the week
    17  of April 9 through 15, 1989, as "Victim Rights Week" in this

     1  Commonwealth to focus public attention on the need for enhancing
     2  the rights of crime victims and the need for improving the
     3  treatment of crime victims.
