A RESOLUTION
1Designating March 19, 2013, as "Arts Education Advocacy Day" in
2Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, The arts, which include dance, music, theater and
4visual arts, are considered, in Pennsylvania and nationally,
5core academic subjects of the same importance as math, science
6and the humanities; and
7WHEREAS, A quality arts education strengthens the development
8of cognitive and social skills, such as creativity, confidence,
9problem solving, communication, perseverance and focus, that are
10crucial in the preparation of all Pennsylvania students for
11future growth; and
12WHEREAS, Engagement in the arts encourages engagement across
13all subject areas and promotes overall academic success; and
14WHEREAS, Experiences in art-making and performing help
15students discover, cultivate and share their unique talents as
16gifts to society; and
17WHEREAS, Students benefit when arts experiences help to
18transcend cultural barriers, evoke universal emotions and reveal
1the ever-changing society in which we live; and
2WHEREAS, An investment in arts education is an investment in
3an educated and productive citizenry and workforce; therefore be
4it
5RESOLVED, That the Senate designate March 19, 2013, as "Arts
6Education Advocacy Day" in Pennsylvania as a time to recognize
7arts education and to express appreciation to arts educators
8throughout this Commonwealth.
