A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of March 2015 as "Fibromuscular Dysplasia
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) is a disease that
causes abnormal cell growth of the arterial wall and can lead to
areas of narrowing, beading, aneurysms and tearing of the
arterial wall; and
WHEREAS, FMD patients present the same symptoms that affect
much of the general population, including hypertension,
headaches and dizziness; and
WHEREAS, There has been little progress in understanding the
disease since it was first diagnosed in 1938; and
WHEREAS, There is no known cause or cure for the disease, and
there are no set protocols for its treatment; and
WHEREAS, FMD is classified as a rare disease, though many
researchers believe it is underdiagnosed; and
WHEREAS, Women comprise 90% of patients diagnosed with FMD;
and
