        INTRODUCED BY WHITE, WAGNER, HELFRICK, COSTA, EARLL, WENGER,
           STOUT, MADIGAN, O'PAKE, BODACK, FUMO, MELLOW, TOMLINSON,
           GERLACH AND MUSTO, APRIL 28, 1999

        REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, APRIL 28, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania
     2     Turnpike Commission to support the "Keep your butt in the
     3     car" campaign.

     4     WHEREAS, The "Keep your butt in the car" campaign is designed
     5  to help keep this Commonwealth beautiful by encouraging smokers
     6  not to dispose of their cigarette butts onto our streets and
     7  highways; and
     8     WHEREAS, The campaign would have a greater impact on the
     9  condition of our streets and highways if it were endorsed and
    10  actively supported by the Department of Transportation and the
    11  Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the Department of
    13  Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to
    14  become active supporters of the "Keep your butt in the car"
    15  campaign and cooperate with the campaign's sponsors in
    16  encouraging smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts in a
    17  safe, sanitary and environmentally sound manner to better
    18  protect and keep beautiful Pennsylvania's streets and highways.
