A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the month of June 1989 as "Heartworm Disease
2 Awareness Month."
3 WHEREAS, Canine Heartworm Disease has become a major pet
4 health problem, killing or debilitating thousands of dogs each
5 year; and
6 WHEREAS, This disease, transmitted by mosquitoes, was once
7 restricted to those areas with heavy mosquito populations;
8 however, in recent years, cases have been reported as far west
9 as California, as far north as Canada, and in other places
10 throughout the United States; and
11 WHEREAS, This serious problem continues to grow and spread;
12 therefore be it
13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania designate June 1989
14 as "Heartworm Disease Awareness Month."
