A RESOLUTION 1 Supporting efforts to retain the Frick Family Archives in 2 Pittsburgh. 3 WHEREAS, Henry Clay Frick, from his coal and coke company to 4 his role in making Pittsburgh this country's steel capital, was 5 one of the most prominent figures in Pennsylvania's industrial 6 heritage; and 7 WHEREAS, The archives of Henry Clay Frick and the Frick 8 family represent a historically significant record of the 9 business and social aspects of the Industrial Revolution in 10 western Pennsylvania that must be maintained; and 11 WHEREAS, The significance of this historical record was 12 recognized by Helen Clay Frick, the daughter of Henry Clay 13 Frick, who established the Helen Clay Frick Foundation in order 14 to allow for the preservation of her family's physical and 15 intellectual property; and 16 WHEREAS, There exist in the Pittsburgh region qualified 17 institutions that can maintain these archives in a manner
1 consistent with the intent expressed by Helen Clay Frick in her 2 will and the best interests of the public; and 3 WHEREAS, Keeping these archives in Pittsburgh, along with 4 those of other prominent families and businesses such as Heinz, 5 Westinghouse, Carnegie and Mellon, bolsters Pittsburgh's 6 relevance to researchers and historians; and 7 WHEREAS, The Senate has a responsibility to support 8 preservation of the history of this Commonwealth through the 9 protection of historical property; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, That the Senate fully support efforts to keep the 11 Frick Family Archives in Pittsburgh in accordance with the 12 wishes expressed by the late Helen Clay Frick.
