A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of March 15 through 21, 1998, as 2 "Agriculture Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The dedication of over 50,000 Pennsylvania farm 4 families generates products which continue to position 5 agriculture as Pennsylvania's most important industry; and 6 WHEREAS, Every Pennsylvanian depends on our farmers and other 7 agricultural workers for an abundant, inexpensive, safe and 8 nutritious food supply; and 9 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's $3.74 billion agricultural industry 10 generates an additional $43 billion in the processing, marketing 11 and transportation industries, with one Pennsylvania worker in 12 five directly or indirectly connected to agriculture; and 13 WHEREAS, The agricultural industry, by developing more 14 nutritious foods, increasing shelf life, changing the 15 composition of produce for transportation and developing new 16 uses for its products, is continually looking for ways to
1 improve or modify foods so everyone can enjoy them; and 2 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania farmers and related industry leaders 3 have proven to be particularly adept at adapting to changing 4 tastes, nutritional needs, environmental pressures and land use 5 patterns; and 6 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians have unique opportunities to see 7 their agricultural industry in action virtually every day; 8 therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of March 15 10 through 21, 1998, as "Agriculture Week" in Pennsylvania and 11 encourage all Pennsylvanians to learn about and appreciate this 12 diverse and productive industry.
