SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, including various workers in the
     3     definition of "correction officer"; and making an editorial
     4     correction.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  The definition of "correction officer" in section
     8  5102 of Title 71 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is
     9  amended to read:
    10  § 5102.  Definitions.
    11     The following words and phrases as used in this part, unless
    12  a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall
    13  have the following meanings:

    15     "Correction officer."  Any employee whose principal duty is
    16  the care, custody and control of inmates of a penal or
    17  correctional institution or community treatment center operated
    18  by the [Bureau of Correction.] Department of Corrections. The


     1  term shall include Correctional Therapeutic Workers,
     2  Correctional Counselors and Psychological Services Aides,
     3  Vocational Directors, Therapeutic Activity Workers, Caseworkers,
     4  Psychological Services Associates, Social Workers and
     5  Psychologists. The term shall include the following employees of
     6  the Department of Public Welfare:
     7         (1)  At youth development centers: Youth Development
     8     Counselors I and II.
     9         (2)  At Farview State Hospital: Social Worker I, II and
    10     III, Caseworker Trainee and Caseworker I, Psychological
    11     Services Associate I and II, Psychological Services Associate
    12     Supervisor, Psychologist, X-ray Technician I and II, Dental
    13     Technician I, Licensed Practical Nurse I and II, Food Service
    14     Instructor, Food Service Worker I, Cook II, Meat Cutter II,
    15     Barber I, Psychiatric Nurse Intern, Psychiatric Nurse I, II,
    16     III and IV, Therapeutic Recreation Service Worker,
    17     Therapeutic Recreation Service Leader, Therapeutic Recreation
    18     Service Supervisor, Occupational Therapeutic Worker,
    19     Vocational Adjustment Service Worker, Vocational Adjustment
    20     Service Supervisor, Correctional Tradesman Instructor,
    21     Security Patient Mailman, Recreation Physical Education
    22     Instructor, Therapeutic Recreation Aide Supervisor,
    23     Therapeutic Recreation Aide, Arts and Crafts Teacher, Canteen
    24     Manager, Canteen Clerk, Psychiatric Chaplain, Patient
    25     Librarian and Pharmacist I and II.

    27     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
