        INTRODUCED BY SCHWARTZ, WILLIAMS, LAVALLE, BRIGHTBILL, O'PAKE,
           THOMPSON, CORMAN, BELAN, MELLOW, COSTA, WAGNER, ROBBINS,
           AFFLERBACH, GERLACH, EARLL, KITCHEN, TOMLINSON AND WENGER,
           MARCH 30, 1998

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MARCH 30, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 1, 1998, as "Lupus Alert Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, Lupus is a serious, devastating and potentially
     3  fatal disease; and
     4     WHEREAS, Lupus is a widespread disease affecting 1.4 million
     5  Americans; and
     6     WHEREAS, Lupus is highly discriminatory, as evidenced by the
     7  fact that 90% of its victims are women; and
     8     WHEREAS, Lupus destroys young women's lives, careers and
     9  ambitions; and
    10     WHEREAS, Lupus affects minority women two or three times more
    11  often than it affects Caucasian women; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Lupus Foundation of America has designated April
    13  1, 1998, as "Lupus Alert Day"; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 1, 1998, as "Lupus
    15  Alert Day" in Pennsylvania.
