A RESOLUTION
Designating June 30, 2019, as "Arthrogryposis Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a
prenatally developing condition, caused by various conditions
and syndromes, in which a baby is born with at least three
joints in two different areas of the body that are highly or
permanently immobilized; and
WHEREAS, AMC presents as either a limited or a fixed range of
motion in the arm and leg joints, inward rotation of the
shoulders, abnormal extension of the elbows, bending of wrists
and fingers and in dislocated hips and inwardly bent heels and
feet (clubfoot); and
WHEREAS, Both the number of and particular joints affected
differ from person to person; and
WHEREAS, AMC occurs in approximately 1 in 3,000 births, with
an estimated 400 distinctly identified types; and
WHEREAS, The most common form of AMC, Amyoplasia, occurs in
