A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of September 2005 as "Alcohol and Drug 2 Addiction Recovery Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction have 4 devastating health and social consequences; and 5 WHEREAS, Addiction destroys the lives of Americans, shatters 6 families and threatens the safety of our neighborhoods; and 7 WHEREAS, In an effort to support individuals fighting to 8 overcome substance abuse, President Bush has implemented the 9 National Drug Control Strategy to fund drug treatment and 10 prevention; and 11 WHEREAS, The theme of this year's recovery month is "Join the 12 Voices for Recovery: Healing Lives, Families & Communities," 13 recognizing that recovery is possible and that treatment 14 services improve the lives of individuals suffering from alcohol 15 and drug use disorders and of the people around them; and 16 WHEREAS, Addicts may have a co-occurring mental disorder or 17 coexisting physical illness, and those persons who succeed in
1 improving their health can better enjoy their family and friends 2 and are more likely to find success in the workplace; therefore 3 be it 4 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of September 5 2005 as "Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month" in 6 Pennsylvania and encourage residents to support programs which 7 offer treatment and hope to affected individuals.
