SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 186 Session of 2007


        INTRODUCED BY TARTAGLIONE, STACK, WASHINGTON, FONTANA, FERLO,
           COSTA, RAFFERTY, STOUT, EARLL, DINNIMAN, WOZNIAK, LAVALLE,
           KASUNIC, O'PAKE, PIPPY, PICCOLA, MUSTO, ERICKSON, FOLMER AND
           ORIE, OCTOBER 2, 2007

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, OCTOBER 2, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 14, 2007, as "Pulaski Memorial Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, General Casimir Pulaski was born March 6, 1745, in
     4  Warsaw, Poland; and
     5     WHEREAS, General Pulaski was a true patriot committed to the
     6  defense of freedom and the sovereignty of nations; and
     7     WHEREAS, General Pulaski, who fought against Russian,
     8  Austrian and Prussian control of Poland, was forced to flee his
     9  country for France, where he met and became a close friend of
    10  the American representative and statesman Benjamin Franklin; and
    11     WHEREAS, General Pulaski joined the Continental Army and
    12  proved himself to be a brilliant tactician and leader; and
    13     WHEREAS, General Pulaski's valiant skills and services to the
    14  American Revolution brought him honor and acclaim; and
    15     WHEREAS, Named General of the Cavalry on September 15, 1777,
    16  General Pulaski earned the title of "Father of the American
    17  Cavalry"; and

     1     WHEREAS, General Pulaski commanded the cavalry in battles at
     2  Brandywine and Germantown, Pennsylvania; and
     3     WHEREAS, In May 1779 General Pulaski contributed to the
     4  successful defense of Charleston, South Carolina, against a
     5  larger British force, breaking British momentum and boosting the
     6  morale of American troops; and
     7     WHEREAS, In October 1779 General Pulaski led a charge behind
     8  the French line of infantry to break the British defense in the
     9  siege of Savannah, Georgia, where he was mortally wounded; and
    10     WHEREAS, General Pulaski's lifework and ideals are a source
    11  of strength and pride to Americans of Polish ancestry and
    12  reflect the customs and culture of the Polish people; therefore
    13  be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate October 14, 2007, as
    15  "Pulaski Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
