A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming October 10, 1990, as "Founding of the Republic of 2 China Day"; and congratulating the Republic of China. 3 WHEREAS, October 10, 1990, the 79th anniversary of the 4 founding of the Republic of China will be celebrated by the 5 Coordination Council for North American Affairs at the Vista 6 International Hotel, New York City; and 7 WHEREAS, The "Double-Tenth" day marks the establishment of 8 the first republic in the history of Asia; and 9 WHEREAS, The republic was formed as a result of the 10 democratic cause led by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen who became the first 11 president and founding father of the Republic of China; and 12 WHEREAS, The Republic of China and her people have long 13 believed in the values of democracy, liberty and equality and 14 have built a successful economy based on the free enterprise 15 system; and 16 WHEREAS, The Republic of China is the world's 13th largest 17 trading nation; and 18 WHEREAS, The Senate on June 29, 1989, finally passed (49-0)
1 S.B. 972, Printer's No. 1397 entitled "An act designating the 2 Province of Tiawan, Republic of China, as a 'sister state'"; and 3 WHEREAS, A firm friendship and cordial relationship exists 4 between the Republic of China and the United States, and a 5 special relationship exists between the Republic of China and 6 the people of this Commonwealth, who are proud of the many 7 accomplishments which have been recorded by the Republic of 8 China and her people and appreciate the many contributions which 9 the Republic of China has made to this Commonwealth and this 10 nation; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the Senate proclaim October 10, 1990, as 12 "Founding of the Republic of China Day"; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate the Republic of China 14 and her people on this auspicious occasion, and extend best 15 wishes for continued prosperity, success and happiness; and be 16 it further 17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 18 the New York Office of the Coordination Council for North 19 American Affairs of the Republic of China.
