        REFERRED TO MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS, APRIL 16, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the contributions of the Blue Star Mothers of
     2     America, Inc.

     3     WHEREAS, The Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., was founded
     4  as a patriotic service organization on February 2, 1942, to
     5  unite mothers who had sons or daughters in the United States
     6  military; and
     7     WHEREAS, The nonpartisan, nonsectarian, nondiscriminatory and
     8  nonprofit organization was chartered by the Congress of the
     9  United States in 1960; and
    10     WHEREAS, Persons eligible for membership in the organization
    11  include mothers and stepmothers who have sons or daughters who
    12  are currently serving in the United States military or who are
    13  honorably discharged veterans; and
    14     WHEREAS, Family members and friends may become associate


     1  members; and
     2     WHEREAS, Fathers of military personnel or veterans may join
     3  the Dad's Association; and
     4     WHEREAS, The work of the Blue Star Mothers of America
     5  includes member involvement in legislation, veterans hospitals,
     6  education, service personnel hospitality, ceremonies for active
     7  duty military personnel and veterans, homeland security and
     8  assisting American Gold Star Mothers; and
     9     WHEREAS, The dedication, sacrifice and hard work of the
    10  devoted members of Blue Star Mothers of America merit
    11  recognition; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize and celebrate the history
    13  and contributions of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc.
