A RESOLUTION 1 Designating June 8 through 14, 1998, as "State Veterans' Homes 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Those who served in the Armed Forces of the United 4 States embody the values of liberty and freedom which created 5 and sustained our nation; and 6 WHEREAS, We, as citizens of the United States of America, owe 7 an inexpressible debt of gratitude to these distinguished 8 heroes, past and present; and 9 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has, for more than 10 a century, provided a home for those veterans in need; and 11 WHEREAS, More than 1,200 of Pennsylvania's 1.3 million 12 veterans live in our State Veterans Homes in Erie, 13 Hollidaysburg, Scranton, Spring City and Pittsburgh; and 14 WHEREAS, Each June, we set aside a week to give special 15 recognition to our veterans homes, their residents and staff;
1 and 2 WHEREAS, It is a traditional gesture of appreciation for the 3 spirit of duty and sacrifice which these residents represent, as 4 well as the dedication and compassion of all those who serve 5 their needs; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, The Senate designate the week of June 8 through 14, 7 1998, as "State Veterans Homes Week" in Pennsylvania and urge 8 all Pennsylvanians to visit one of our veterans homes to express 9 their heartfelt thanks to the residents and staff.
