A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the month of October 2013 as "Arts and Humanities
2Month" in Pennsylvania and calling upon Pennsylvanians to
3celebrate and promote the arts and culture in their
4communities and in this Commonwealth.
5WHEREAS, The month of October has been recognized as "Arts
6and Humanities Month" by thousands of arts and cultural
7organizations, communities and states across the country; and
8WHEREAS, The arts and humanities embody much of the
9accumulated wisdom, intellect and imagination of humankind; and
10WHEREAS, The arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives
11of every American; and
12WHEREAS, The arts and humanities play a unique role in the
13lives of our families, our communities and our country; and
14WHEREAS, Arts and humanities organizations provide civic
15pride, community participation and volunteerism; and
16WHEREAS, There are many arts and humanities venues and
17events, including, but not limited to, natural history and art
18museums, music festivals, concerts, plays and other
19performances, historical organizations and commemorative events;
1and
2WHEREAS, Arts and humanities venues and events provide
3destinations for tourists, attract and retain businesses and
4provide economic revitalization; and
5WHEREAS, Nonprofit arts and humanities organizations are
6active, direct contributors to local businesses in the
7communities in which they are located and provide a substantial
8indirect financial benefit; and
9WHEREAS, The Americans for the Arts Study found that the
10nonprofit arts industry strengthens Pennsylvania's economy by
11generating $2.55 billion in total economic activity annually and
12by supporting the full-time equivalent of 81,000 jobs; therefore
13be it
14RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of October 2013
15as "Arts and Humanities Month" in Pennsylvania and call upon
16Pennsylvanians to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in
17their communities and in this Commonwealth.
