A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the week of November 5 through 11, 2000, as "Chemistry 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The science of chemistry gives us the power to 4 understand and to use the elemental building blocks of all 5 material things; and 6 WHEREAS, The science of chemistry provides the fundamental 7 understanding required to deal with many of society's needs, 8 including those which determine our quality of life and our 9 economic strength; and 10 WHEREAS, Chemists and chemical engineers use their powerful 11 science in helping to feed the world's population, tapping new 12 energy sources, clothing and housing humanity, providing 13 renewable substitutes for dwindling or scarce materials, 14 improving health and conquering disease, strengthening our 15 national security and monitoring and protecting our environment; 16 and 17 WHEREAS, Five thousand four hundred members of the
1 Philadelphia Section of the American Chemical Society, along 2 with their nearly 200 sister sections in all 50 states, the 3 District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have set aside November 5 4 through 11, 2000, for a national celebration directing our 5 attention to the myriad contributions of their science; 6 therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the Senate declare November 5 through 11, 8 2000, as "Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania with the hope that the 9 chemists and chemical engineers of our State will rededicate 10 themselves on this occasion to the service of all humanity; and 11 be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 13 the Philadelphia Section of the American Chemical Society.
