A RESOLUTION
1 Designating June 25, 2002, as "No Place for Hate Day" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, The Anti-Defamation League launched a national "No
4 Place for Hate" campaign in January 2001 to promote respect for
5 individual and group differences and prevent hate crimes; and
6 WHEREAS, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc., and the Free
7 Public Library have joined the Anti-Defamation League, one of
8 the nation's premier civil rights and human relations agencies,
9 in promoting the "No Place for Hate" campaign in Philadelphia
10 area communities presently, and soon in other communities
11 throughout this Commonwealth; and
12 WHEREAS, The campaign, also supported in this Commonwealth by
13 the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities and the
14 Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, empowers
15 participants to challenge anti-Semitism, racism, hate and
16 bigotry of all forms; and
1 WHEREAS, A recent national survey reveals an increase in the
2 number of Americans with anti-Semitic attitudes, signaling the
3 reversal of a ten-year decline in anti-Semitism in the United
4 States; and
5 WHEREAS, The survey shows that 17% of American adults or 35
6 million people in the United States hold anti-Semitic views; and
7 WHEREAS, As rising anti-Semitism and continuing
8 discrimination threaten our communities and as the need for
9 tolerance and acceptance has never been greater, programs like
10 "No Place for Hate" deserve recognition; therefore be it
11 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate June 25, 2002, as "No
12 Place for Hate Day" in Pennsylvania.
