        INTRODUCED BY TOMLINSON, BOSCOLA, STACK, ERICKSON, PUNT,
           RAFFERTY, FONTANA, FOLMER, COSTA, GREENLEAF, C. WILLIAMS,
           TARTAGLIONE, D. WHITE, DINNIMAN, BAKER, PILEGGI, MADIGAN,
           EARLL, ORIE, WASHINGTON, KASUNIC, WAUGH, WOZNIAK, McILHINNEY,
           O'PAKE, ROBBINS, FERLO, PIPPY, LOGAN, KITCHEN, WONDERLING AND
           RHOADES, APRIL 7, 2008

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 7, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of May 2008 as "Pennsylvania One Call
     2     System Month."

     3     WHEREAS, As excavators and contractors work to keep pace with
     4  this Commonwealth's building industry, it is important to
     5  minimize damage to underground utility lines, danger to workers
     6  and loss of utility service to our citizens; and
     7     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System, a utility service
     8  information center celebrating more than 35 years of continuous
     9  service to this Commonwealth, is key to preventing injuries and
    10  damage when digging; and
    11     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System provides easy, one-call
    12  notification about construction and excavation projects that may
    13  endanger workers and jeopardize utility lines while also
    14  promoting public safety, reducing underground utility damages,
    15  minimizing utility service interruptions; and
    16     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System began with six utility

     1  companies in western Pennsylvania and the City of Pittsburgh and
     2  now serves more than 100,000 excavators and 3,100 critical
     3  infrastructure owners in this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, The Senate encourages all residents of this
     5  Commonwealth to call 811 or 1-800-242-1776 at least three
     6  business days, but not more than ten business days, before
     7  digging in order to protect underground utility lines, and for
     8  more information visit www.PaOneCall.org; and
     9     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System receives more than
    10  750,000 notifications and transmits more than 6 million
    11  notifications to protect critical infrastructure owners in this
    12  Commonwealth each year; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2008 as
    14  "Pennsylvania One Call System Month."
