A RESOLUTION 1 Designating September 26, 2004, as "Unity Day" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, Section 1 of Article 1 of the Constitution of 3 Pennsylvania states that all persons are born equally free and 4 independent and have certain inherent and indefeasible rights; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the Commonwealth to recognize 7 the rights of Pennsylvania citizens to be free from 8 discrimination based on race; and 9 WHEREAS, It is appropriate to designate a day to demonstrate 10 and celebrate Pennsylvanians' desire for a community of respect, 11 harmony and justice and to show that racism is a betrayal of the 12 most fundamental values of our religious and constitutional 13 heritage; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate September 26, 2004, as 15 "Unity Day" in Pennsylvania for the purpose of recognizing the
