No. 298 Session of 2008


        INTRODUCED BY TARTAGLIONE, STOUT, FONTANA, WASHINGTON, RAFFERTY,
           PIPPY, DINNIMAN, ORIE, PILEGGI, ERICKSON, COSTA, MUSTO,
           LOGAN, A. WILLIAMS, BOSCOLA, C. WILLIAMS, KASUNIC, GREENLEAF,
           O'PAKE, BAKER, WOZNIAK, KITCHEN, ARMSTRONG, LAVALLE AND
           TOMLINSON, APRIL 28, 2008

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 28, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of May 2008 as "Law Month" in Pennsylvania
     2     and urging lawmakers, lawyers, judges and schools to
     3     participate.

     4     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association will launch its
     5  ninth annual "Law Day" program on May 1, 2008; and
     6     WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the Pennsylvania Bar
     7  Association and local bar associations across this Commonwealth
     8  will sponsor activities throughout the month of May; and
     9     WHEREAS, The theme for 2008 is "Growing Strong Citizens"; and
    10     WHEREAS, The celebration is coordinated by the Law-Related
    11  Education Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and
    12  funded by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation; and
    13     WHEREAS, Schools, attorneys and judges will be encouraged to
    14  work together to arrange for classroom visits as part of the
    15  celebration; and
    16     WHEREAS, The primary purpose of the celebration is to teach
    17  children about their legal rights and responsibilities and to

     1  share with them the essence of being an American citizen; and
     2     WHEREAS, Students of all ages in kindergarten through college
     3  will have the opportunity to explore the ways in which they can
     4  have an impact on our world; and
     5     WHEREAS, The annual observance of "Law Day" is part of the
     6  Pennsylvania Bar Association's continuing partnership with the
     7  Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Pennsylvania
     8  Coalition for Representative Democracy (PennCORD); therefore be
     9  it
    10     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2008 as
    11  "Law Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
    12     RESOLVED, That the Senate urge all lawmakers, attorneys,
    13  judges and schools to participate in this year's celebration.
