A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of May 11 through 17, 2008, as "National 2 Police Week" and May 5, 2008, as "Police Officers' Memorial 3 Day" in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, Approximately 702 police officers have made the 5 ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within 6 this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty; and 7 WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 11 through 8 17, 2008, will be recognized as "National Police Week"; and 9 WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was 10 held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by 11 President John F. Kennedy, on October 1, 1962, and has continued 12 to be observed annually in memory of those police officers who 13 made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of 15 police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in this
