A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2016 as "Pennsylvania 8-1-1 Safe
Digging Month."
WHEREAS, As engineers, designers, excavators and homeowners
work to keep pace with this Commonwealth's building industry, it
is important to minimize damage to critical underground
infrastructure, danger to workers and loss of utility service to
our residents; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System, a utility service
information center, celebrating more than 44 years of continuous
service to this Commonwealth, is key to preventing injuries and
damage when digging; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System provides easy, one-call
notification about construction and excavation projects that may
endanger workers and jeopardize utility lines while also
promoting public safety, reducing underground utility damages,
minimizing utility service interruptions and protecting the
environment; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System began with six utility

companies in western Pennsylvania and the City of Pittsburgh and
now serves more than 100,000 excavators and 3,600 critical
infrastructure owners in this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of April 2016
as "Pennsylvania 8-1-1 Safe Digging Month"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage all excavators and
homeowners in this Commonwealth to call 8-1-1 or 1-800-242-1776
at least three business days, but not more than 10 business
days, before excavating in order to protect our critical
underground infrastructure, and for more information visit
