A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the invaluable contributions of war dog teams to 2 United States military efforts since World War I. 3 WHEREAS, Over the course of our nation's military history, 4 tens of thousands of war dogs served during World War I, World 5 War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Iraq and 6 Afghanistan, and they continue to serve our military missions 7 around the globe; and 8 WHEREAS, War dogs have a legendary history for bravery on 9 thousands of foreign battlefields, where they have saved 10 countless American lives; and 11 WHEREAS, Some military analysts estimate as many as 10,000 12 United States and allied soldiers were saved during the Vietnam 13 War alone; and 14 WHEREAS, The casualty rates in all other wars were 15 significantly reduced by thousands as a result of deploying war 16 dogs; and
1 WHEREAS, These animals have performed specialty duties as 2 scout, sentry and tracker and have completed demolition, tunnel, 3 water patrol, coast guard, search and rescue and explosive 4 detection missions; and 5 WHEREAS, As highly trained and proficient four-legged 6 soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors, war dogs have never been 7 mascots; and 8 WHEREAS, War dogs have worked for food, water and the love 9 and companionship of their handlers; and 10 WHEREAS, War dogs, like other military heroes, have never 11 given up on the battlefield; and 12 WHEREAS, Bristol Township has begun erecting the Pennsylvania 13 State Memorial to honor these splendid animal heroes which 14 should be designated the official war dog memorial; therefore be 15 it 16 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the invaluable 17 contributions of war dog teams to United States military efforts 18 since World War I.
