        REFERRED TO EDUCATION, MARCH 6, 1997

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for the reporting of drug,
     6     violence and weapon violations occurring on school premises.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
    11  section to read:
    12     Section 1317.3.  Drug, Violence and Weapon Violations
    13  Reporting.--(a)  Teachers shall report drug, violence and weapon
    14  violations occurring on school premises to the district
    15  superintendent, who shall report the violations to the police.
    16     (b)  Information pertaining to drug, violence and weapon
    17  violations occurring on school premises shall be shared among
    18  the teachers and administrators of the school district.
    19     (c)  If a student is transferred or promoted to another


     1  school, information regarding drug, violence or weapon
     2  violations incurred by that student and occurring on school
     3  premises shall be released to the teachers and administrators of
     4  that school.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
