SENATE BILL

No. 1155 Session of 2001


        INTRODUCED BY BOSCOLA AND COSTA, OCTOBER 16, 2001

        REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, OCTOBER 16, 2001

                                     AN ACT

     1  Authorizing and directing the Department of Transportation to
     2     erect sound barriers on certain sections of Interstate 78 in
     3     Lower Saucon Township and City of Bethlehem, Northampton
     4     County, Pennsylvania; and making an appropriation.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7  Section 1.  Construction.
     8     The Department of Transportation shall erect sound barriers
     9  on the southbound sections of Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon
    10  Township and City of Bethlehem, Northampton County,
    11  Pennsylvania, as described in section 2.
    12  Section 2.  Location.
    13     The location of the sound barriers is the south side of
    14  Interstate 78 from the Rt. 378 overpass at mile marker 63.2 to
    15  mile marker 65, a distance of approximately 2 miles.
    16  Section 3.  Design and materials.
    17     The design for and materials used in the construction of the
    18  sound barriers shall be of the design and type which is most


     1  suited for use in this area.
     2  Section 4.  Appropriation.
     3     The sum of $4,000,000, or as much thereof as may be
     4  necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of
     5  Transportation from the General Fund to carry out the provisions
     6  of this act.
     7  Section 5.  Effective date.
     8     This act shall take effect immediately.
